"Yeah But Have You Seen...?  Or  So You Think You Can Goncharov" is a fictional film generation game for 2 or more players originally written for the 2024 Tumblr 200 RPGs Game Jam.

The rules for playing Yea But Have You Seen...?  Or  So You Think You Can Goncharov are as follows:

  • In a manner where responses can be shuffled and randomly drawn from, each player writes as many names of actors, directors, niche micro genres, and events that could occur in a film.
  • Players take turns drawing from each category and using the results to describe a non-existent film.
  • During each turn all other players must ask a question about the film.
  • Play continues until all responses are drawn or all players concede that they won't be able to come up with a better film.
  • Once play ends choose the groups favorite film, vote if necessary. After the game ends all the players must post on social media about the winning film as if it was a real movie they have just watched.

lol now this is one my fav things ever ) right among Takuma Okada' Among the Stars and Sam Mameli's Adventure Game Needs Translation.

Goncharov hits a sweet spot between fun zero-prep party game, story-driven ttrpg and gamified collaborative prep to other games.

I got into habit of having multiple games to choose from for our one-shot evenings — for fun and in case something goes sideways. We didn't have enough time for Balikbayan, The Deep Forest or game I wrote, but having a literal film festival didn't just save the day, it was the best game we could've played today.

Thank you a lot for this little brilliant matchbox.

Our newbie volunteered to digitalise the best bits for a semi-random event tables to be used in our next games, Goncharov's a gift that keeps on giving.
